been00:38working in the foundation business for00:40over 16 years so guys welcome to the00:43show welcome being here being are00:46referred partners we’re happy about that00:48tell us about GL hunt Gio hunts been in00:51business since 1987 it’s a family-owned00:53company started by Bill Hunt and Gary00:55hunt00:56Gary hunt is still active in the company00:58his dad mm-hmm so we do all kinds of01:03foundation repair we do estimates for01:06commercial and residential properties we01:09do preventative maintenance we do01:10anything that has to do with maintaining01:12your foundation I’m is it true that you01:14guys did the foundation repair to the01:16alamo that a rumor I think I just01:20started was about the owners uh Gary is01:28semi-retired but still actively involved01:30in the business his dad has passed away01:32they can’t get out they can’t stop he’s01:34just addicted to foundation repair so do01:39you guys mostly do San Antonio do you01:41guys vent trucks out of sense man San01:43Antonio surrounding areas New Braunfels01:46you know I’m going out to Medina01:48tomorrow so that’s an hour and a half01:52away so you know we’ve got everything01:54covered pretty much around San Antonio01:55and surrounding areas01:56absolutely that’s great what this is a01:59question just popped in my head what02:00made your family decide hey you know02:02what let’s do let’s start a foundation02:04repair business like how did that come02:06up I do know the backstory to that Gary02:08was actually a contractor of a different02:10kind he was doing windows and doing a02:12lot of02:13like mortgage type stuff actually02:14helping people remodel their whole house02:16and get the second one and that kind of02:18thing and he had to find a foundation02:20repair contractor for something and this02:23was 30 years ago and he saw the02:25foundation guys come out do the job saw02:28how quickly they did it saw what they02:30had to do and just became very02:31interested in getting involved in Wow02:34try to walk me through the process I02:36come to you I need my foundation repair02:38can you walk me through the process02:39basically you’ll call us we’ll set up an02:42estimate deston or one of six or seven02:45other people will come out to see you02:47depending on what type of foundation you02:49have if it’s a concrete slab02:51he’ll come inside he’ll take elevation02:53readings with what we call a comp you02:54level you’re not showing up with the02:55marble and see if it rolls take readings03:02throughout the house draw the house03:04determine what’s actually going on with03:06it um walk the exterior of the property03:08see if you got some trees that are a03:10problem if you’ve got a drainage issue03:12that type of thing and then sit you down03:15and let you know what you have going on03:16and most most of the time what do you03:17see is the issue why is there a broken03:20foundation when it I guess when we’re03:22talking about concrete yeah03:24the soil but the number one cause of03:27foundation failure is gonna be trees03:29really and most people don’t ever know03:32that they take up they absorb so much03:35water you know so and there’s ways03:39around that you can put in root barrier03:41too you know we go about 15 feet away03:44from the tree got the root system if you03:46cut it too close to kill the tree cut03:48the roots you install a root barrier03:49when they grow back they’ll be diverted03:51elsewhere it’s better than tearing down03:55all the trees03:58so what would be a good question for me04:00to ask if I needed to get my foundation04:02repair what’s a good question as far as04:05you being a customer if you may not know04:07that you even have a foundation issue04:11you know is well there’s a standard in04:15the industry basically you don’t want a04:17one inch deviation of meaning you don’t04:20want to be up or down more than an inch04:22in a 20 foot radius so you know if if04:25I’m coming out to your house you know04:27you can start with the basics it not04:29inspects am i within this one inch range04:32and obviously customers have lots of04:34questions why do I have drywall04:36drywall cracks you know why is the slab04:41or the pier and beam why is it cracking04:43here or there you know there’s just04:44multiple multitude of questions so you04:47just said parent being so there’s04:48different types of foundation there’s04:50the old style which is post where a home04:53is on a on beam right port and then04:56there’s concrete right is there any04:57other type of foundation yes you can05:00have basically a pier and beam and a05:02slab05:04combined into one typically happens when05:07there’s an older right in addition okay05:11if you go to different areas of the city05:13you can see how different builders over05:15the years changed what they were doing05:17as far as Foundation’s work so if we’re05:19doing work maybe in the Alamo Heights05:20area you’re dealing with something05:21totally different than the northeast05:23side of town and what is the biggest05:26difference between because I I’ve been05:27in the houses and they feel like they’re05:28all unlevel and then they’ll come back05:30and say oh it’s just shifting and then05:32sometimes it feels fine and then it05:34turns out there’s a brook there’s a05:35foundation issue so what’s what’s the05:38difference where do you where do you or05:39the farmer it’s much on a slab you know05:42a slab is gonna move at the same time a05:44appearan beam house you’re gonna fill05:46all the irregularity in the slab those05:49are the houses you can crawl underneath05:51but what what’s the danger if you let a05:54foundation issue go without rectifying05:57it what can happen you know lose the pen06:03your resale value okay so it’s not06:06within the tolerance but no tension okay06:08the other thing is you can have plumbing06:10problems if your guys more than 2 inches06:13or so your PVC pipes can pull apart06:15underneath your slab and you have not06:16have sewage Oh gracious day that’s06:19exactly what happen – Bobby that’s so06:21weird how can somebody get in contact06:22with you
